Verdict
Oriole swung to a pre-tax profit of £0.99 million for the six months to 30 June 2026 from a £0.57 million loss a year earlier, and to basic earnings of 0.02 pence per share from (0.02) pence.
The operating business barely moved: administrative expenses £0.68 million against £0.72 million, exploration expenditure £1.29 million against £1.31 million, operating loss £513k against £574k.
Liquidity is where the period actually changed. Cash fell to £1.48 million from £2.50 million at 31 December 2025, a decrease of £1,021k, and the directors state the Group may require further funding to cover overheads and Cameroon operations within the next 12 months.
No financial guidance accompanies the results. The dated commitments are operational: a maiden Wapouzé MRE and/or JORC Exploration Target in late Q3-2026, and an estimated US$2 million Senala programme funded by partner Managem, in which Oriole does not plan to participate.
The one thing that matters: the swing to profit is an accounting entry, not a change in the business — £1,492k of the £986k pre-tax result is a non-cash profit on the change in Mbe ownership — while cash fell to £1.48 million against a going-concern note flagging a possible funding requirement within 12 months.

Quality of earnings
The profit is entirely non-operating. The £986k pre-tax result rests on £1,492k of profit on change of asset ownership and £474k of earn-in contributions credited against administrative costs; the operating loss narrowed only to £513k from £574k.
Currency worked against the Group this period after working for it last year: a £309k exchange loss, including £0.31 million unrealised on the euro-denominated Senala asset, against a £409k exchange gain in the prior half.
The earnings-per-share figure is struck on a much wider share count: 4,864,255,120 weighted average basic shares against 3,895,872,338, and 6,152,001,133 on a diluted basis against 3,895,872,338.
Gotchas & watch items
The funding that paid for exploration has run out. Amounts received under the Earn-in stand at nil at 30 June 2026 against £3,852k a year earlier, while H1 exploration spend was £1,290k and cash received from the earn-in partner fell to £221k from £1,409k.
Cash burn outruns the balance: a £1,021k net decrease leaves £1,475k, against £1,290k of exploration spend in the half alone.
The Muratdere royalty proceeds are slower than the headline. The US$1.2 million is payable in three equal tranches over the next year, with only US$400,000 received.
Oriole's own share of the resource story is smaller than the flagship number: global attributable JORC Resources are 1.11Moz against the 1.66Moz gross Inferred Resource at the 50%-owned Mbe project.
