Revenue of $127.6 billion came in just under the $127.97 billion estimate, a 0.3% miss, while GAAP diluted EPS of $2.12 missed the $3.01 estimate by 30%.
The EPS miss sits below the operating line: operating income rose 30% to $40.6 billion at a 31.8% margin, but other income and expenses swung to negative $8.2 billion on an unrealized loss on the SpaceX stake.
Cloud is the engine: revenue up 103% to $30.7 billion and operating income of $11.1 billion at a 36.2% margin, up from 23.7%, with TPU system sales a meaningful contributor.
Guidance held: full-year 2026 CapEx stays at $195 to $205 billion, with CapEx expected to increase significantly in 2027.
The one thing that matters: the core business beat its own growth bar while cash went the other way. Operating income grew 30%, yet free cash flow was negative $9.1 billion as $51.4 billion of CapEx and a TPU inventory build ran ahead of the system sales meant to repay them.

Management commentary
Pichai said year-over-year query growth was the highest in five years and the Gemini app has reached 1 billion users.
Ashkenazi attributed most of the Q2-to-Q3 search slowdown to FX, plus APAC retail advertisers hit by the EU ending its de minimis exemption and media spend normalizing after a World Cup-heavy Q2.
On cloud margins, Ashkenazi said: "We expect margin headwinds in the near term as we utilize this capacity."
Ashkenazi framed TPU system sales as a cash-cycle business rather than CapEx: inventory is built ahead of delivery, with cash coming in as customers are billed.
Kurian said over 100 significant TPU customers start in Google's cloud, with TPU systems now also offered in customer data centers and through Oracle and a CoreWeave joint venture.
Quality of earnings
Reported EPS understates the operating quarter. The decline traces to negative $8.2 billion of other income and expenses, mainly an unrealized SpaceX mark, while operating income grew 30% to $40.6 billion on 25% revenue growth.
Earnings did not convert to free cash. Operating cash flow of $42.3 billion against $51.4 billion of CapEx left free cash flow at negative $9.1 billion, after a $5.2 billion EC fine payment and inventory built for TPU system sales.
Cloud margin gains came with a cost still to land. The segment margin reached 36.2% from 23.7%, but third-party bridging capacity came online only at the very end of the quarter and management expects margin headwinds as its use ramps in Q4.
Gotchas & watch items
Search growth is slowing for reasons beyond the headline: search revenue grew 12% to $63.3 billion, FX was the single largest drag versus Q2, and lapping last year's acceleration took about 3 points of growth, a drag management expects to continue in Q4.
Cloud backlog is short relative to the run rate: $61 billion, with just over 55% expected to convert to revenue over 24 months, against $30.7 billion of Cloud revenue in this quarter alone.
Off-balance-sheet commitments are large: future purchase commitments of $924 billion plus $152 billion of pre-commencement leases and other obligations at quarter end.
TPU system revenue is still mostly ahead: management said some system sales have been recorded as revenue, with more expected through 2027 and a meaningful revenue ramp in 2027 after Q4 scaling.
